Innovative Solutions for a Sustainable Future

Explore Ethos Eco’s Impactful Projects

Discover how Ethos Eco is transforming waste into resources and empowering communities worldwide through groundbreaking initiatives.

Project 1 2016-20 Biomass Energy

“Why burn forestry waste or let agricultural waste rot to methane when it can help power the world.”

This initiative focused on converting forestry and agricultural biomass—material that would otherwise decompose—into a modular biomass energy solution. Although the team secured planning approval for one of Europe’s largest biomass power stations, the project did not move forward due to shifts in U.K. energy policy.

By deploying this approach in regions with abundant biomass, such as North America and West Africa—where waste from logging is often burned or left to rot, releasing methane—the solution helped create local jobs while reducing emissions. Developed through a U.S.–U.K. collaboration, this engineering solution is now ready for global deployment in a modular format.

Project 2 2019-2022 Waste Plastics to Oil

“Why send non-recyclable plastic to landfills or incinerators when it can be transformed into a valuable liquid oil, which can then be further refined into liquid chemicals?”

Over a three-year period, the team designed, built, and commissioned a commercial-scale system that converts sorted waste plastics into synthetic oil, which is subsequently processed in the EU into liquid chemicals.

This facility could sort municipal solid waste (MSW) for recycling and process 30,000 metric tonnes of pre-sorted plastic annually, yielding 6–7 million litres of synthetic oil per year. The team also secured an off-take agreement with an international oil company to supply the oil for use in its EU-based synthetic cracking plant.

Project 3 2023-2024 Efficient Waste Recycling

“Why landfill municipal waste when the biomass in it rots to methane and most of the other materials can be recovered, recycled, creating jobs and wealth.”

The team has partnered with an international engineering group that developed a waste recycling process capable of handling 150,000 metric tonnes per year. This system can manage municipal solid waste (MSW) and, in a separate setup, hazardous and hospital waste. It uses a patented sterilization technology to recover biogenic materials, producing a cellulose fiber that can be gasified for energy once its sugars are extracted for liquid fuel production. All remaining waste materials are then recycled. The team is currently collaborating with an EU island state to design a waste management strategy for processing 1.25 million metric tonnes annually.

Project 4 2024- 2025 Clean Mining Initiative

“No child should be in a mine when they could be in school being educated.”

The team is partnering with community miners in Asia to transform gold and precious metals processing through the Community Artisan Mining Initiative. This program is investing in education on safer mining techniques and clean chemical ore processing, while also enhancing community infrastructure with sustainable housing, schools, and other essential facilities. It aims to provide medical insurance for miners and their families, promote a living wage and gender equality, and address critical issues such as child labour in mining and processing plants.

Project 5 2025 – Critical Metal Processing Centre

The Ethos Eco team are working on a process to liberate critical metals and rare earth elements (REEs) in a more efficient & sustainable way than convention processes.

Ethos Eco are working with a technical institution on the development of the process which will be in commissioning in 2026.
